YOUR LAST EXCUSE JUST GOT "FIXED FOR LIFE"
A clinic has opened in Wilson County that is already making a difference for many pet owners. The full impact of the services available through the Fix For Life, Low Cost Spay & Neuter Clinic, will not be known for a few years, but it can only be a benefit to solving the problem of pet-overpopulation in our area - and a blessing to dogs and cats that go through the clinic.
Like most pet owners, I love my pets - but I also realize that other people will not love the kittens and puppies they would produce if they were not neutered. There are simply not enough homes in the area to adopt the surplus of pets - and not enough shelter space to house the excess until homes are found. We know what happens to most of the animals that end up in an Animal Control facility - and no one can be happy about that. "Spay and neuter, spay and neuter" has long been the chant of rescue groups and animal activists. And then there are the excuses some people still make for not having a pet neutered -
#1 - "I don't have the time to schedule this with my vet."
#2 - "I'm worried about putting my pet through this surgery."
And #3 - "I can't afford this - especially if I have more than 1 pet."
So, let's go through these excuses -
#1 - Scheduling with the Fix For Life Clinic is very easy. Call 615-453-2FIX - you will either be asked to leave a message for a timely call-back or you will get right through to someone who will arrange an appointment. No hassle, no income requirements - just the questions needed to book your pet on the best day for you. On the day of your appointment, you will be asked to fill out a half-page form with your name and address. Your pet will be admitted usually within 15 minutes of your arrival - and the pickup will be just as easy.
#2 - The facility is clean and sanitary and fully equipped - the clinic has passed a thorough state health inspection. The staff includes a licensed veterinarian, some professional vet techs, and trained volunteers. For your pet, this will be more like a day at the spa rather than surgery. All pet areas are constantly monitored - your pet won't hiccup without someone noticing it and checking it. Pets stay overnight to insure they are coming out of their surgery comfortably - when you come to pick your pet up the next morning, you will be greeted by his wagging tail or happy purr. A vet tech will go over after-care instructions, and a phone number will be available for you to call with any concerns.
#3 - The cost for the spay/neuter services at Fix For Life range from $20 for a cat neuter to $40 for a dog spay. Your pet and the pet community you live in will benefit from spay and neuter - and with that money you still have in your pocket, you can treat yourself to something because you are a responsible pet owner.
Do you own a dog or cat? Have you made any of the excuses here for not having that animal spayed or neutered? Well, thanks to the Fix For Life Clinic, you are now officially out of excuses.

Took my first kitties today to the new spay and neuter clinic in Lebanon. It is in conjunction with the animal shelter and the mobile clinic there in Wilson Co but is low cost for those that don't meet criteria for the free services. I paid $89 per female cat for spay, distemper, rabies, Fe Leuk and FIV test, dewormed and microchipped.......the FIV test alone is $40-$50 elsewhere (they only provide these other services in conjunction with a spay or neuter...said that they didn't want to take too much business from local vets offices). All of the other stuff is optional and the spay alone would have been $30. The staff was very nice and the facility clean as a pin. You have to call first and they call you back to set an appointment. You can pay when you drop off or pick up. Also it is an overnight stay with no extra charge. I dropped mine off at 8:00 this morning and have to pick up at 7:30 in the morning.
UPDATE: I went to pick up my cats this morning and the staff was all smiles. The vet actually came out and spoke to me about one of my momma cats that had mastitis and told me that they gave her antibiotics after her surgery...no extra charge. I would recommend them to anyone. They will spay and neuter as young as 12 weeks and give rabies vaccines at that age with the surgery. The number on my invoice is 453-2349.
